Spotlight On: Squash at the Y – Spartanburg, SC

The Carolinas Squash District’s SPOTLIGHT ON this month features “Squash at the Y” in Spartanburg, SC, with Coach Jason Moriarty.

Squash at the Y is located in in the Thomas E Hannah Family YMCA  in Spartanburg, SC. There are currently about 30 players with weekly squash events and tournaments mid-year and end-of-year. The level of play includes beginner and intermediate. There are players from nine different countries represented at Squash at the Y!

History of Squash in the SC Upstate and Squash at the Y:  There were proper courts in both Spartanburg and Greenville, but all have since been closed.  Janshir Khan has played at the courts in Greenville back in the day. Squash at the Y started with three players and they are now pushing 30.  Their youngest player is almost 2!  Most players are coming from a tennis background into squash.  Squash at the Y held  their first tournament in 2018 and had players from Columbia come and participate.
